03 - 4 ounces fresh mozzarella, sliced

# Expert Advice:

01 -
  • It takes barely any time but tastes like you put real thought into lunch.
  • The basil adds a brightness that makes this feel less like a snack and more like an actual meal.
  • You can make it with ingredients you probably already have sitting around.
  • It is one of those recipes that works whether you are cooking for yourself or trying to impress someone without trying too hard.
02 -
  • If your tomato slices are too thick, they will make the sandwich soggy and the cheese will not melt properly before the bread burns.
  • Medium heat is critical because high heat will char the outside while leaving the inside cold and sad.
  • Do not skip the resting step or the cheese will slide right out the second you cut into it.
03 -
  • Press the sandwich gently with your spatula while it cooks to help the layers meld together and the cheese melt faster.
  • If you want extra crispness, add a tiny bit more butter to the pan just before flipping.
  • Use a serrated knife to slice the sandwich cleanly without squishing all the filling out the sides.
